The Helper
One of the precious gifts we received from God through Jesus Christ is the helper… Holy Spirit.
The holy spirit is such an invaluable gift from God to us, to have the very essence of God dwell inside of man, to have His spirit; the same life-giving spirit that was there at the beginning of time, guide and be our life-long companion is the greatest flex in this side of heaven. To know how big a deal the holy spirit is, Jesus Himself couldn’t do this life without his help, power, and guidance, yet, he was the son of God.
As far as your Christian experience is concerned, the holy spirit plays a pivotal role just like the Father and the Son, Jesus. The experience of having the Holy Spirit differs from the experience of submitting to him, and Jesus helped us make that distinction. For thirty whole years, Jesus was just a man, though he had the ability he had no power or capacity to fulfill his mission on earth so, he remained as a man until the Holy Spirit came upon him and empowered him to do so. It is recorded in Luke 4 that Jesus full of the holy spirit was led into the wilderness for forty days where satan tempted him. The distinction here is that Jesus allowed the holy spirit to lead him into the wilderness, he did not question why he had to leave civilization and go into the wilderness. He trusted the instructions and leadership of the holy spirit because he recognized who the holy spirit is to Him; His helper, the spirit of life and wisdom. The ministry of Jesus could only begin after these events.
Sometimes we rush into action when God gives us an assignment and we often fail, then question God for our results. The disciples of Jesus could not carry out the mandate of the great commission Jesus gave them in Matthew 28:16-20 without the holy spirit. Jesus speaking “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen”. Then Jesus told them in the account of Luke in chapter 24:49 “I am going to send you what my father promised, but wait in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high”. The disciples waited at least forty days for the day of Pentecost to come, and ever since, the holy spirit has been on earth establishing us in Christ.
Jesus also knew we couldn’t do this life on our own with satan ruling it, he knew we couldn’t do the will of the Father and walk in the newness of our God-like nature on earth without the holy spirit so he said in John 14:16 that “I will ask the father and He will give you another helper that he may abide with your forever” What he said to His disciples, he is also saying to us because we are also his disciples.
Who is a helper? The one that comes to make things easier and better. In the case of the holy spirit, he is so much more than that. He is the power behind everything that is and will be. The holy spirit is the one who helps us experience the supernatural and do extraordinary things, he is the power that transforms us and helps us become, he endues us with the power that helps us achieve incredible feats that defy the logic of our natural abilities. Like Jesus, we have the ability as new creations but without the power of the Holy Spirit to activate it, manifesting the realities of our capability as new creations is impossible and the only way to activate the power of the holy spirit is by submitting to this leadership.
The holy spirit to a believer is not a lot of things, he is everything! The sooner you understand this, the better and easier it will be to manifest in the reality of your new creation. Enlisting the help of the holy spirit is one sure way to walk in power and victory, limit your toils and mistakes, and become your truest self, according to the will and purpose of God for your life. If you feel gaps or voids in your life that you can’t explain, that’s the place of the holy spirit and nothing can fill it to your contentment except him. Let the helper bring you into the full experience of a new creation, let the holy spirit do his works in you and guide you to fulfilling your divine mandate, but you must be ready to submit to his leadership just as you confessed Jesus as your lord and savior, and he will swoop in.
